It’s a pop-up arts and culture hub for people of all identities and ages championing local artistic and creative ideas. containR features an Art Park, performance series, community instigations and mural installations made of retrofit shipping containers. It is a vibrant meeting place, providing access to art and encouraging grass roots community engagement. 




Terms

25-30 hours/week for 20-23 weeks depending on position. Occasional evening and weekend hours required. The negotiable start date is May 23, 2022 to June 20, 2022.

CONTAINR PRODUCTION ASSISTANT (PART-TIME)


The containR Art Park Facility and Production Assistant will play a crucial role in the execution of containR programming acting as on site community, renter and partner liaison and attending to logistics, production and maintenance of containR Art Park for season programming. 



RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Provide technical support for shows at containR 

  • Liaise with the community, renters and partners

  • Basic cleaning and maintenance of containR site for safe public use

  • Assist in event and technical equipment set up

  • Responsible for ensuring all events adhere to current AHS guidelines for the protection of COVID-19


  • Assist with scheduling for containR productions and maintain as needed

  • Work closely with the Production Coordinator 

  • Assist with technical support for artists and productions

  • Knowledge of sound and lighting equipment is an asset

  • Knowledge of sound mixing and an interest to learn is an asset

  • Knowledge of stage management is an asset

  • Act as a crew member on site

  • Acting as an assistant SM (on select shows) and supporting artist liaison duties. 

  • Assist with occupational health and safety protocols

  • Communicate with guest artist, including assisting with the creation and coordination of artist itineraries and welcome packets

  • Coordinate meeting/rehearsal times

  • Gather, digitally file, and distribute documents related to artist liaison activities



INTERNSHIP SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 


  • Ability to lift 20+ lbs

  • Comfortable working outdoors and in public spaces (in summer months)

  • Comfortable working with the public

  • Experience with tools and audio equipment is a strong asset

  • The ability to work remotely as well as evenings and weekends at event locations

DIGITAL CONTENT COORDINATOR (PART-TIME)


The Digital Content Coordinator position will work with the Marketing and Communications Manager and the Audience Engagement and Marketing Coordinator to plan and create content for all of Springboard’s digital channels including containR, Fluid Fest, and Season Presenting. This position will be responsible for design, photography, and video production as well as content plans for social media and the website.



RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Create digital content including photo, video, and graphic design for dissemination on social media and the Springboard website

  • Assist in developing marketing campaigns with planned digital content

  • Seek out and present opportunities for social media improvements (increased engagement, visitation, followers, usability, etc.)

  • Attend Springboard events including containR and Fluid Fest for video and photo documentation

  • Alongside the marketing team, manage a social media content calendar and regularly engage with Springboard and containR audiences



INTERNSHIP SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 


  • Familiarity with Adobe 

  • Comfortable working in virtual meeting environments

CONTAINR EVENT ASSISTANTS (Part-Time)


The containR Art Park Event Assistants will play a crucial role in the execution of containR programming providing on-site hospitality and logistical support for patrons and rental partners. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Set-up and tear down of site materials such as signage, chairs, tables, and tents;

  • Assist with directions, schedules, and provide information to patrons and the general public about activities on the site;

  • Assist with seating arrangements when required including wheelchair accessible areas;

  • Ensure all health and safety requirements are enforced in accordance with containR’s Covid-19 protocols along with all AHS and AGLC permitting requirements 

  • Maintain site materials inventory;

  • Provide food and beverage sales services when required;

  • Provide box office ticketing services when required;

  • Maintain post-event reports;

  • Oversee event volunteers


INTERNSHIP SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS 


  • Ability to lift 20+ lbs;

  • Comfortable working outdoors and in public spaces (in summer months);

  • Comfortable working with the public; 

  • Experience in hospitality services such as bartending an asset

  • Valid ProServe an asset 

  • Cash handling experience

Event & Bookings Assistant/coordinator (1) -  build show notes / liaise with renter / admin - some site work (reports to Taryn)




EVENT & BOOKINGS ASSISTANT (Part-Time)


Reporting to the containR Coordinator, the containR Art Park Event & Bookings Assistant will play a crucial role in the execution of containR programming ensuring all interested renters and event bookings are managed through a cohesive system. 


RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Manage rental inquiry form and web portal;

  • Manage master summer schedule of event bookings;

  • Liaise with all interested renters to coordinate labour and technical requirements;

  • Coordinate with other containR staff to ensure bookings are feasible;

  • Maintain rental contracts and invoicing;

  • Prepare pre-event show notes for Event Assistants and Production team

  • Occasional on-site shifts required evenings and weekends

CONTAINR OUTREACH COORDINATOR


Community outreach coordinator will oversee the planning and implementation of outreach strategies. They are primarily responsible for connecting people in the broader community by creating deeper community engagement, partners, sponsorships and cultivating relationships with businesses, individuals, and other relevant organisations.


  • Identify relevant education exchanges;

  • Build meaningful relationships with neighbours;

  • Plan and coordinate community engagement activities

  • Liaise with community partners from arts & other spheres

  • Develop and coordinate new educational programs

  • Conduct external relations for containR’s presenting series and special projects


The nature of the position is evolving, adapting to the needs and opportunities of our growing organization. The role of Outreach Coordinator will require occasional evening and weekend commitments. Overtime is compensated with time-off in lieu, during slower periods.


Outreach

  • Plan & implement activities that increase traffic to containR events

  • Raise awareness of organization and build organizational reach to new demographics

  • Research outside cultural activities to look for opportunities for new connections

  • Develop and maintain strong and positive ties to Sunnyside community members and other Calgary based communities, audiences, partners, artistic and academic communities, and other cultural workers;

  • Liaise with existing and cultivate new organizational partnerships;

  • Work alongside marketing and social media marketing specialists to develop and implement traditional and digital marketing strategies and assets around outreach and education;

Education & Events

  • Plan/oversee educational activities

  • Organize community building events that enhance and interpret exhibition programming

  • Assist with deployment of containR events

  • Seek out and present opportunities for improvements in education, outreach, and


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience within Deaf, Mad and disability arts and culture;

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills;

  • Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and adhere to deadlines with minimal supervision;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and with collegial spirit;

  • Experience in community arts and organizing is considered an asset.

MUSIC CREATIVE PRODUCER


The Music Creative Producer will play a crucial role in the representation of the containR Art Park music productions, acting as on site community, artist and partner liaison.



RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Act as a conduit to CJSW;

  • Act as a liaison between containR, the music community, and stakeholders in the music community in Calgary;

  • Acts as a representative for Springboard Performance within the community, including attendance at other containR events, and community events;

  • Assist with building programming, supporting featured music artists at containR;

  • Build a cultural and provide opportunity for emerging and indie music artists at containR;

  • Research and implement ways to connect neighbours to our programming by 1) encouraging attendance and, 2) encouraging conversation about programming 3) encourage connection and understanding of the performing artists; 

  • Take the lead on blog posts, podcasts, and interviews with artists;

  • Help produce broadcast-worthy content linked to containR programming for dissemination at CJSW (will receive training from CJSW);

  • Post content to springboardperformance.com, cjsw.com, Spotify, iTunes, and Soundcloud;

  • Gather the CJSW playlists for the containR site;

  • Promotes the values and mission of containR, ensuring these are known and shared by the team members, artists, and partners. 

  • Act as liaison between containR and community partners to develop content opportunities;

  • Develop ideas and coordinate production of pre-recorded podcasts (with partner CJSW) featuring containR artists;

  • Evaluate existing containR Music programs and developing new content ideas with volunteers and staff;

  • In collaboration with the Artistic & operations team, contribute to the organisation’s strategic plan for onsite music;

  • Manage music focused meeting schedules, attend meetings as required, and maintain meeting documents.

 

Qualifications

 

  • A deep understanding and appreciation of the music scene in Calgary

comprehensive understanding and appreciation of campus/community radio and a deep knowledge of all varieties of non-commercial news and spoken word radio/podcasting;

  • Ability to critically assess potential programming and interviews in an ethical and timely manner;

  • music training/journalism training/and experience within online interviews are assets;

  • Self-motivated and willing to initiate and projects;

  • Experience with Logic audio editing software is essential;

  • Experience working with volunteers to create informative and entertaining programming;

  • Being an open-minded individual, creative thinker and excellent communicator;

  • A progressive attitude, good stress management, multi-tasking and organisation skills are a must.

MURAL CREATIVE PRODUCER 


The Mural Creative Producer will play a crucial role in the representation of the containR Art Park murals, acting as on site community, artist and partner liaison.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Act as a liaison between containR, the street art community and mural artists, and stakeholders in the mural community in Calgary 

  • Research and implement ways to connect neighbours to the murals through 1) encouraging viewings, 2) encourage discussion about themes that might inspire murals, 3) to encourage a conversation about the murals and the artists that created them

  • Plan and paint a series of murals on site

  • Maintain murals on-site

  • Coordinate orders for mural supplies

  • Build strategies for mural year-round maintenance

  • Help empower youth and community through mural making

  • Assist with the Youth Mural Project to inspire and train youth to paint murals and inspire ways to capture the process through writing, photography and social media

  • In collaboration with the Artistic & Operations team, contribute to the organization’s strategic plan for onsite murals

  • Research funding opportunities for mural commissioning

  • Manage mural focused meeting schedules, attend meetings as required, and maintain meeting documents

  • Acts as a representative for the company within the community, including attendance at other containR events, and community events

  • Promotes the values and mission of containR, ensuring these are known and shared by the team members, artists, and partners

PERMA(CULTURE) CREATIVE PRODUCER


The Perma(CULTURE) Creative Producer will play a crucial role in the representation of the permaculture and greenspaces of containR Art Park, acting as on site community, artist and partner liaison.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Act as a liaison between containR, the permaculture community, and stakeholders in the community in Calgary

  • Design, creative, and facilitate permaculture/cultural programming at containR for the 2022 summer season

  • Create opportunities for community to connect to land and place

  • Act as a liaison between the permaculture, sustainability, artist, and neighbour communities

  • Explore how sustainability can connect communities at containR

  • Develop and lead programming that can be used to deepen creative practice and to bring a new ethical basis to projects, particularly in relation to ecology, natural systems and regenerative cultures

  • Articulate a set of tools, based around the ethics of earth care, people care and fairshare, which help us reconnect with the natural world at containR and to create projects and work with a strong ethical, ecological and regenerative foundation

  • Integrate permaculture design principles and how it can be used in creative contexts

  • Explore examples of art, sustainability and permaculture projects

  • Act as a liaison between containR, the sustainability/permaculture community, networks and stakeholders in these various communities in Calgary

  • Act as a liaison between containR, the sustainability community, and stakeholders in Calgary. Proactively connecting with the local community

  • In collaboration with the Artistic & operations team, contribute to the organization’s strategic plan for onsite Perma(CULTURE) projects

  • Work on-site and help maintain the green spaces at containR

  • Acts as a representative for the company within the community, including attendance at other containR events, and community events

  • Promotes the values and mission of containR, ensuring these are known and shared by the team members, artists, and partners

  • In collaboration with the Artistic & Operations team, contribute to the organization’s strategic plan for onsite sustainability

  • Research funding opportunities for permaculture/culture collaborations

  • Manage perma(CULTURE) focused meeting schedules, attend meetings as required, and maintain meeting documents

  • Acts as a representative for the company within the community, including attendance at other containR events, and community events

  • Promotes the values and mission of containR, ensuring these are known and shared by the team members, artists, and partners



LIVE PERFORMANCE CREATIVE PRODUCER

 

  • Act as a liaison between containR, the live performance community, artists, partners, networks, and stakeholders in the live performance community in Calgary

  • Research and implement ways to connect neighbours to live performance through 1) encouraging attendance, 2) encourage discussion about performances that neighbours would like to experience 3) to encourage a conversation about the work and the creating artists

  • Curate an event on site

  • Help empower emerging artists and community through live performance

  • In collaboration with the Artistic & Operations team, contribute to the organization’s strategic plan for live performance

  • Research funding and partner opportunities for live performance

  • Manage live performance focused meeting schedules, attend meetings as required, and maintain meeting documents

  • Acts as a representative for the company within the community, including attendance at other containR events, and community events

  • Promotes the values and mission of containR, ensuring these are known and shared by the team members, artists, and partners

  • Assist with the coordination of larger festival and conference events such as containR Fest and World Stage Design activities at containR
