Hearing stories of my grandfather’s time in residential school and his dislike for black converse high-top shoes, as he was required to wear them during his time there. It made remorse I know shouldn’t be felt but intergenerational trauma carries on with us, even if a family from two generations ago experienced it first hand. The actions of the performance will display the realities of continuing to walk with that blood memory

SIKAPINAKII

Blackfoot Artist, Sikapinakii, is from the Siksika First Nation and currently lives in Mohkinstsisi to attend the University of Calgary for their Master’s of Fine Arts. As an interdisciplinary artist, they work with a variety of mixed-mediums to tell the stories of their identity, indigenous experiences, culture, languages, and stories told. Their overall practice aims to educate the non-indigenous about the Blackfoot people in hopes that it will create a comfortable setting for all. This is crucial as a young Indigenous person as they have an ingrained purpose to tell their story and the stories of their people.
