Expanding on the idea that a rhythm need not be complex in its most fundamental form to move you, but a singular idea, stretched through improvisation, can inspire. Specifically, this piece portrays rhythmic tension through the lens of a dreamer who responds through movement, going in and out of a dream-state.

Nate Chiang

Nate Chiang is a freelance jazz drummer. He leads both the Deane House Jazz Band and The Eden House Band on the music mile. He has collaborated with a diverse array of local artists from multiple disciplines. He is the drummer for the Allison Lynch Quartet, Augustine Yates Trio and the Wallpaper Trio. He has performed in such festivals as Block Heater, JubeFest, and the Calgary Summer Jazz Festival. 

Kaja Irwin

Kaja Irwin is a Winnipeg born dancer, choreographer, and dance educator. After deciding to pursue a career in dance after completing her B.A. in Political Science, Irwin studied in the Professional Training Program offered at DJD, developing her love of both jazz and the Calgary dance community. Thrilled to currently be in her 7th season with Decidedly Jazz Danceworks, Kaja also loves to explore movement and collaborations across art forms.
